Back when I was a sales outfitter at Bass Pro Shops, selling merchandise was my objective. I worked in the footwear department and gifts department. Between both of these departments, we have quite a few customers come into the store. I enjoyed interacting with customers and understanding their needs.

What is sales? Sales is helping customers   make their decision and to confirm that your product is the best fit for their needs. Being the best salesman means listening carefully to the customers wishes. Sales is the key to keep the company up and running.

Most companies are looking for entry level sales representatives. If you get hired by a company, your starting position would most likely be a sales development representative. Some skills that I have learned through my sales experience include seeking out customers, and developing strong communication skills.

Strong Communication Skills

This by far is an easy lesson that everyone should be taught. When you are talking to a customer about the product, you want to have a good understanding about what the product does and how it will benefit the customer. I would do research on the product beforehand. That way, when you are asked a question about the product, you will have the ability to give an answer. Having good communication skills is crucial!

Listening to their needs

It always helps to listen when the customer speaks about what they are interested in and any concerns they have about the product. By doing that, I was able to guide customers to the best product based on their budget. By asking these few questions, this will help you understand more about the customer’s needs:

The best way to earn those skills is to do research! Another way is to  find a mentor that will show you all of the ropes and make you look like a superb salesman!
